Borderline
Borderline is a new video installation which involves both projected and monitor based imagery. The piece involves a number of images shot at night, the events in each sequence being lit by ambient light; candles, fireworks, burning material and explosions. The of this light which flickers, bursts with intensity or is momentary in its ‘lighting up’ of the surroundings gives each of these events a temporal spatiality, which emphasises the edge of things, the borderline between what we recognise with authority and that which always exists outside of our certainty. The darkness also adds to this uncertainty of scale and distance, and consequently our ability to perceive the on going narrative which continually slips between celebration and impending violence, between ritual and tragedy.
